2 PAYMENT METHOD PROFILES: CASH

The existence of the NCS and the power it provides its members is in effect a barrier to entry, and this may help explain why NCS members G4S and Vaultex are profitable, at least in comparison to U.K. CIT carriers. The 2024 BRC Payments Survey showed that cash remained the cheapest tender method for U.K. merchants to accept in 2023, costing £430 million to process overall, equating to an average of 0.20% of cash spending. By comparison, debit card transactions cost 0.27% and credit card transactions 0.61%. 148
