Regulation Presence (Merchant) Regulations regarding cash include some restrictions on who can process/transport cash which can be seen as a form of barrier to entry. While these regulations limit the number of participants in the market, competition still exists within the payment method. This can depend on the country - for example, the UK has regulation that limits who can process and manage cash. See the UK Case Study in the Cash Profile.. Regulation Presence (Consumer) Regulations exist to protect consumers from counterfeit notes and coins in most countries; however, counterfeit numbers are relatively low in many markets. See the Global Overview in the Cash Profile for more information. Central Monitoring (Public/Private) Central banks dictate the supply of cash. They also provide licensing for armored transport and cash processing if the services are not provided by the central banks themselves.
